Paul Duggan it does, campaigning rather than being president. If you charge your campaign for your time you can make a pretty nice wage and if you run up all you campaign expenses by using the services of your companies you can recoup quite a bit.
Trump boasted back in 2002 that if he ran for president he’d be the first candidate to make money doing it. This election scam is a very nice way to use other people’s money and that is his modus operandi for all his businesses. He always gets paid first.
Usually I think it’s his partners who go bankrupt, not him — he plays with other people’s money, and makes sure he gets a cut whether it succeeds or fails.
David Megginson It’s segments of his business, not the whole empire. He probably siphons money away from the business, he doesn’t have to pay suppliers, etc, because that business is bankrupt and there’s a tax rebate for the loss. Everyone loses except him. You’re right: he gets a cut, success or failure.
Well, he does seem to be pretty broke.

Does that count as a real job?

Here’s a glimpse into how the scam works (not exactly sophisticated): http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2016/06/21/what_is_draper_sterling_we_knocked_on_the_door_to_find_out.html
(I think Tom Megginson originally brought that story to my attention.)

John Hardy not a Turnbull fan Fair enough. Although I think Huckabee makes money doing it, so Trump isn’t the first.

For such a rich guy he uses very small scale ways of making money.

John Hardy not a Turnbull fan I’ve heard that he “doesn’t have his wallet” if you go to lunch with him.
