  2. This got me wondering about the bandwidth of an actual stock Rubik’s cube, as in using the state of the faces to store data. Turns out it’s not huge. According to Wikipedia there are 43 quintillion states — which yields a theoretical max of 66 bits.

    Stored in a way that is extremely slow and difficult to read and write from. I’m not sure if that 43 quintillion number accounts for the orientation of faces or not — if it doesn’t then you’d have to draw arrows on all the faces to even get a meager 66 bits into the thing.

    So I will from this point on pretty accurately estimate the bandwidth of a Rubik’s cube, I guess.
