You know — making fun of Little Ray Kurzweil (maker of some very fine synthesizers) doesn’t obscure the point that he was only a little bit wrong in his futurism.
He thought: Moore’s Law -> Machine Learning -> Singularity.
Reality is: Moore’s Law -> Machine Learning -> Everybody Loses their Jobs to Trivial Robots and Starves to Death -> Earth Becomes a Desert -> Singularity
If you squint, he’s still almost spot-on. It’s just that the Singularity, when it comes, only really threatens rusting driverless cars, discharged Roombas, and social amplification algorithms that scan empty Twitter feeds in infinite loops until the sun dies.
Ray might have been right had we not continued war mongering. Sadly, we’ve actually had technology to overcome major diseases since 1935. Look up Royal Raymond Rife and mortal oscillatory rate.
Funny guy. Didn’t think about climate change. Maybe thought his robotic self will have no problems like that. And:
