Social democracy aka “liberalism” is failing everywhere, even in (Northern) continental Europe. The only difference is the relative speed of the decline.

The disappearance of the middle class in the USA and increasingly the UK and the rise of the “precariat” as the value of human labour is debased and class-based bargaining power gets continually eroded, is a phenomenon that will grow more common across all Western democracies.

The reasons for this are structural rather than political. While various conservative administrations will hasten the decline, this new normal will be delivered over the long term by governments of every political stripe.
