This is the real story. The Trump campaign spent considerably less than the Clinton campaign but most of that spend was on Facebook and social media ads while Clinton spent most of it on television ads. The relative effectiveness of these mediums was given a pretty definitive demonstration. There were other factors at play of course, Obamas incumbency, the general economic downturn and the advantages of an outside challenger but the much smarter campaigning of the Republicans was decisive.
“I always wonder why people in politics act like this stuff is so mystical,” Brad Parscale, the leader of the Trump data effort, told reporters in late 2016. “It’s the same shit we use in commercial, just has fancier names.”

Facebook charges less for ads which generate more clicks — which means lies and outrage are cheaper to spread than dull old balanced truth. Once again, it’s the business model that’s the problem.
I will now add a very sober and practical warning: If the Constitution is abrogated by a “repeal” of 2A, it will be revolution time – millions of armed Americans will regard it as their moral duty to rise up and kill those who threw it in the trash. I will be one of them.
If you do that, Eric S Raymond, then I will kill you myself with my own bare hands.
After you’re dead, I will stomp on your motionless corpse face and then plant the flag of the Glorious CULTURAL MARXIST Revolution in your left eye socket.

The speed gains of AMP are solely due to Google preloading your page’s assets in the search page before you visit the site. In other words the efficiency is not in making the web page fast but simply to enable Google to create the impression of a fast site by preloading sites you may or may not visit.
It’s not breaking the web exactly but it is monopolistic behaviour.

I wonder if the adults are willing to strike on this issue as well? If they aren’t then aren’t they relying rather heavily on these kids to do their jobs for them?

A great article on profiling and optimising a JavaScript program in order to match the performance of its rewrite in Rust/WebAssembly.
It’s a long but readable exploration of replacing certain bits of code and modifying algorithms in JavaScript to unlock a four-fold improvement in performance.
