This same phenomenon occurs in Canada—those fearless male defenders of “Western values” seem to target mainly women wearing hijabs or niqabs for harassment, kicking, pushing, punching, etc, while giving men a wide berth.

I think the anti-hijab/niqab laws in France and other parts of Europe, and failed attempts to do the same in Quebec, help guide the white supremacists to their (female) targets by stigmatising the victims’ clothing choices.

The attacks in Quebec increased after the province’s previous government unsuccessfully tried to introduce a “Charter of Values” restricting the hijab and niqab in some settings. There was another spike in attacks in 2015, when former PM Harper tried to introduce a token law banning the niqab in polling places in a failed attempt to fire up his conservative base.

What a sad spectacle. The former leader of the Australian Labor Party “Iron” Mark Latham, once upon a time Australia’s answer to Third Way politics, now a paid hack of the Murdoch press and pro-Trump conservative*. The problem for poor old Mark is that while he tried to present himself as a philosopher of Labor Party the sad truth was that he never was the sharpest knife in the draw and a bit of a joke to everyone who knew him.

Here you see him trying to vox pop a point about the Sydney Muslim community without getting the irony the Asian Cabramatta community has been targetted and villainised by fat racist dickheads like him in exactly the same way.

* Not the first Labor leader to turn into a right wing fucker after losing the leadership. The ALP has quite a history of conservative turncoats stretching back to Billy Hughes and includes Bill Hayden.

This is truly sad and pathetic. His other videos are worse: he goes into Fairfield and Liverpool on a weekday, so of course he’s going to find unemployed people, and make them seem representative of the wider community. I wouldn’t even expect an Alan Jones or a Ray Hadley to sink this low. Maybe Pauline Hanson. We sure did dodge a bullet in 2004.

Note the inept use of an analogy straight from the Vietnam war. Actually it was the capitalist American forces that destroyed villages in order to “save” them.
