Now the Trump threat is over maybe it’s time for progressives, for whom support for Clinton has always been qualified, to cast a critical eye once again in her direction?

To be fair, I think people are still far from assured that the threat from Trump is really over but there is certainly a problem with a clique of neo-liberals being swept to power without any leftist scrutiny. Once there, the Bernie platform, having served its purpose, will be quietly shelved. Once again the maddies and war hawks of centrism will hold centre stage.

Universal Basic Income has some questionable aspects. Will it simply inflate prices of essential commodities (rent, education etc) out of affordability for those who have no other source of income? Thereby forcing them to settle for inferior scammy products and services?

While it is strongly supported by the Left as a kind of “Socialism Lite”, UBI also has its advocates among the neo-liberals and that fact alone should give us pause. Is this just another way to offer “coupons” to the poor and to eliminate public sector institutions that have a duty to fairly provide health and education services?

How does UBI relate to the balance of power within society? Does it empower or disempower the ordinary (and increasingly underemployed) citizenry relative to the self-interested and generally predatory ruling elite?

Pretty much all there is to say. Tax the fuckers.
